Goal

Tenneco’s goal was to modernize and optimize their 20,000 sq. ft. office space and 6,000 sq. ft. science lab to create a supportive and desirable workplace environment for employees, for guests, and for recruiting top talent in the field.

Tenneco’s office space required a much-needed transformation. There was minimal access to daylight, narrow corridors, communication barriers, and under-utilized areas. For example, a large amount of unused square footage was wasted in the server and printer area, while desirable space in shared rooms was narrow and crowded. Tenneco’s goal was to modernize and optimize their 20,000 sq. ft. office space and 6,000 sq. ft. science lab to create a supportive and desirable workplace environment for employees, for guests, and for recruiting top talent in the field.

Formcraft needed to implement workplace strategies to apply the corporate brand, and convey the right message of Tenneco’s ideals and company culture in the design. Another objective was to improve the customer experience at Tenneco’s Philadelphia office space and science lab. Formcraft accomplished this by utilizing a fresh, clean, well-organized design. They improved amenity areas for guests, which include spots they can plug technology into in the cafe and collaboration areas.

Formcraft designed open offices and full height continuous windows which highlight the great views and allow for maximum natural light. Low height work stations for across-office views support the office’s connectivity and feeling of community. Dynamic wall, floor, ceiling materials and accent colors along with decorative lighting, wood ceiling features, and modern furnishings relay a fresh and progressive feel that aligns with the forward-thinking company brand. Acoustics and noise distractions were addressed via noise dampening materials and a white noise system.

Formcraft also designed a training area that seats 60 people, and is divisible via an operable partition to break the area into two smaller training rooms as needed. Intended not only for internal use, but also this space can be used to host company and partner events, allowing Tenneco to foster relationships with their customers.

Additional design elements in Tenneco’s new office space include several common lounge areas which employees can use for work and collaboration. Formcraft also redesigned the cafe/town hall area with expansive window access. Included is moveable furniture for multiuse as a café amenity space, personal work area, or breakout space. Finally, Formcraft included a boardroom and meeting space, as well as a gym area.

Tenneco’s new office space and science lab brings clients to an exciting and refreshing transformation that we couldn’t be more proud of! Let the before and after photos tell the story.

Principal
Formcraft

In addition to the office space, Formcraft was commissioned by Tenneco to renovate one of their science labs located in Exton, PA. Experienced in lab design, Formcraft understood the goals and priorities of this type of space, and knew how to streamline the process. With roles in interior design and construction management, including coordination with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing subcontractors, it was crucial to remain keen on the technicality of Tenneco’s needs and functionality. The lab was fully renovated and expanded to the latest technologies and finishes. The exterior windows were replaced, resulting in a more cost-effective and sustainable solution in energy usage. A real team effort was enforced to design the best space possible for all of the equipment and employees. One of Tenneco’s goals was for this facility to be a showpiece for customers. The newly renovated lab is now brighter, more open, and fosters improved production. After a successful team effort, Tenneco has become a repeat client.
