Potters Industries engaged Formcraft to design and build a high-functioning, professionally branded workplace and R&D laboratory.

Formcraft executed a fast-paced project, delivering a cohesive workplace that now serves as the headquarters for the newly independent manufacturing company. The workplace was designed to improve workflow and collaboration, evoking a sophisticated yet industrial feel.

Formcraft worked closely with Potters’ leadership team throughout the entire design build process to align with their goals and preferences. While creating a workplace strategy, it was decided that renovating their Malvern location was the optimal way to meet the company’s current and future needs. Alternate locations were considered; however, the existing loading dock was essential to business and a new strategic layout of the workplace would allow for future growth.

One of the main objectives of the project was to improve the workflow, efficiency, and function of the workplace and R&D lab. Potters’ previous lab space was divided into four different areas, which created disruptions in team communication and collaboration. Formcraft designed a new laboratory that accommodates all employees and their need to work better together. The team elevated power, lighting, and equipment requirements which has enhanced the production capabilities of the laboratory.

The lab is adjacent to new meeting spaces, a new coffee bar, and individual offices, an easy flow for guests and employees. The café includes flexible furniture for various uses as well as a variety of meeting spaces and workstations to accommodate different work styles. The overall effect of the space is inviting and sophisticated.

Potters’ brand identity is a core element of the design. The cool blue brand colors are complemented by soft greens, refined textile textures, marble and dark wood accents, and playful wallcovering feature walls. Ceiling designs include dynamic elements such as an exposed industrial café ceiling and sleek black decorative lighting.

The Potters team wanted the company’s history to be reflected in the workplace. A detailed timeline of the company dating back to 1891 is displayed in the board room. Previous Potters logos and historically relevant room names are printed on the frosted glass walls and doors. Formcraft even incorporated glass beads produced by Potters Industries into tile grout, giving it an appealing sparkle. This was a creative way to go above and beyond typical branded elements of a workplace.

Speed to market was especially critical for Potters given their industry. Formcraft’s preconstruction and construction teams monitored lead times and stayed on top of equipment deliveries amidst supply chain issues. This resulted in an on-time project delivery with minimal downtime so the Potters Industries team could get back to manufacturing as soon as possible.
